Investigators witnessed
excessive use of electric prods,
which produce 5,000 – 6,000 volts
of electricity, on animals confi ned in
chutes and pens. MFA’s undercover
videos show animals frantically trying
to escape the painful shock. In rodeo
after rodeo, investigators documented
baby calves jumping and jerking
away from the shock. At one rodeo, a young steer was repeatedly
shocked and tormented into the arena. He bellowed out in distress
when his head became trapped in the holding gates during his
attempt to move away from the painful device.
"The video documented abusive
use of the cattle prod on
cattle that were trapped in
the holding chute. These
cattle had no place to move.
They were hit repeatedly with
5,000 volts to ensure that
they would bolt out of the chute
at maximum speed. The cattle exhibited signs
of extreme distress noted in their movements to
try to avoid the pain.”
